Live the cause

International Women’s Day ? Why ?

While writing the post today, I asked myself over and over again – should I start with ‘ Happy Women’s Day’ ? I did not find any reason to celebrate, this sounds much like extension of consumerism to me and that is why I did not wish any one ‘Happy Women’s Day’. A while ago I have posted my thoughts on FB and am sharing it again with you all here.

” The International women’s day celebrates the advancement of women in past, present and future and ironical enough this day is being declared as national holiday in those countries where women has no voice, no liberty.   Reason to celebrate ???

Consumerism has trivialized the idea of day like this, so there are women’s day sales going on everywhere ! This is not liberation, advancement or progress of a gender.

If we really wanted to do something it has to be started in our own backyard with The power to ‘ SAY NO ‘ – SAY NO to dowry and dowry deaths;  SAY NO to domestic abuse / violence ;  SAY NO to rape (marital rape as well) ,  SAY NO to sexual harassment ,  SAY NO to girl child abortion ,  SAY NO to cultural violence , SAY NO to what you are not ,   SAY NO to what you do not believe in …

Live your life ; Live your own dreams ; Live your freedom ; Live your self not a day but everyday.

Believe in yourself , in your spirit, in your dreams.

A truly liberating cause will actually materialize then for a healthy and progressive society, for a better world.

And a true celebration of womanhood will found its meaning again , otherwise it is all hollow from inside. “

womens day

I understand , for many of us it may not be possible to do something on a macro level, but I think you don’t have to. We can start from our own backyard, we can speak or act against all the domestic violence in our house or in  neighborhood,   not just being a mere spectator of violence / abusive relationships, instill and cultivate the values in our children and be brave and strong enough to stood for what is wrong, what is unjustified. Freedom to think independently, freedom to choose one’s life ,  freedom to dream and freedom to live our dreams !

So am not raising a toast to celebrate, we are all created equal ,we demand equality in all respect, in every term. At the same time I condemn those women who has power (read political)  in their hands to bring change in the society they lives in rather sinking deeply in corruption and un-ethical practices. If you have power, use it wisely and for the betterment of the society. And a toast to all those women (unsung heroines of every small cause) who has fought against all odds to achieve their dreams.

World will then see a true liberating cause, a celebration of womanhood in its true meaning.

A note to my readers – From now onward we have decided to broaden the perspective of our blog, it will remain primarily a food and travel blog but from time to time we will also publish our views or thoughts on social issues that needs to be redressed and for that I am not going to start another blog for it, rather using the same blog as platform to voice my views. To mix the recipe or travelogues with it will lose the objective as a whole. So these posts will stand alone on its own and will be filed under different category. Hope my readers will understand this and will appreciate it.

Thanks in Advance

100% agree with you. In that direction first step is we have to be independent and strong. we have to come out of our partner’s shell and have to make our own life too. thanks for sharing such a beautiful note with us,

Thank you so much Linsy for understanding and appreciating our views. “Partner’s shell” is the right word for it. even women in our country has become economically independent to some extent, but yet how many of us had the freedom to use and ability to manage own finance. And above all being a women we are high on emotional quotient and that sometimes prevent us to make concrete decisions.
