Tofu is something which I am very fond of, because of its versatility, its ease of preparation and extremely friendly nature, it easily mingle with any dish and adds texture to any kind of dish. Tofu has no flavor or taste as such but it readily absorbs the flavor and taste of the dish in which it is being used.
In one of my visit to Bangkok, I had these silken tofu dunked in some fruity flavoured syrup and I immensely liked it. My regular Chinese takeaway in Bangalore do make excellent stir fried dishes with deep-fried tofu which they also sometimes served as an appetizer. The deep-fried tofu triangles coated with chilli-soy sauce was too good to taste but is extremely greasy, which is something which you wont prefer every time.
When it comes to appetizer, the vegetarian option becomes highly limited to paneer and potato or cauliflower, paneer is no doubt an excellent choice but it requires preparation and it become chewy when it gets cold. But with tofu there is no such problem and it is something which is not been explored much.
So, next time if you have a un-announced guest coming for dinner or for any cocktail party, you can rely on these baked tofu triangles, which requires no preparation, can be made ahead, and easy to prepare just in 15 minutes. I have used extra firm tofu to prepare these triangles and the crunchy peanut gives a nice crusty look with honey and soy sauce to add the flavor and taste.
This post is part of Day 3 of the 10th edition of blogging marathon under the theme “Guilt Free Snacks“
Ingredients:
Tofu cut into thin triangles (use extra firm tofu) : 6 triangles
Crushed peanuts : 1/2 cup
Soy sauce : 1 tbsp
Sesame (white) : 1-2 tsp
Honey : 2 tbsp
Method:
Cut the extra firm tofu into thin triangles.
In a mixing bowl add crushed peanuts, soy sauce, honey and sesame and mix well. It should have a thick consistency, so that it can coat the tofu, if it becomes little runny add more peanuts or sesame.
Dip each of the tofu triangles in the peanut soy honey mixture, coat them well and arranged on a greased ovenproof dish.
Bake the tofu triangles in a pre-heated oven at 375 F for 10 minutes.
Serve immediately with a soy sauce dip.
